A new study on Daily Essential Nutrients for pregnant women is underway in New Zealand at the University of Canterbury. The study focuses on pregnant women who are struggling with depression and anxiety and aims to find alternative treatments to assist them.
Hayley Bradley (video above) is working with Dr. Julia Rucklidge (video below) and the Mental Health and Nutrition Research Group to determine if Daily Essential Nutrients can improve low mood and anxiety in pregnant women.
The trial is still open to new recruits. Researchers are looking for pregnant women who are:
Participants enrolled in the study will be randomized to receive either capsules containing the New Zealand Ministry of Health's recommended level of nutrients or Daily Essential Nutrients, a broad-spectrum micronutrient formulation, for 12 weeks. After 12 weeks, all participants will have the opportunity to take Daily Essential Nutrients for another 12 weeks or until the birth of their child.
Women who participate in this study will be asked to meet with the researchers every four weeks and will receive mental health oversight throughout the duration of their pregnancy as part of their participation in the trial.
Dr. Rucklidge's lab independently tests micronutrients, probiotics, and other natural formulations and their effects on psychological disorders, including ADHD, depression, addictions, and stress in both adults and children. The trials she conducts include both open-label and randomized placebo-controlled trials. Dr. Rucklidge is not employed by or affiliated with Hardy Nutritionals® (or any other product manufacturer) in any way and says her work is motivated by the desire to help those affected by psychological illnesses.
